Payment for Overage Use

of Revive Adserver Hosted edition

This page explains how we calculate the cost of overage use, and how this is charged to the subscriber.

What is Overage Use?

For every pricing level, there is a corresponding number of monthly ad requests included.

For example, the Lite plan, which costs $10 per month, includes up to 1 million ad requests per month, and the Plus plan, which costs $20 per month, includes up to 2 million ad requests per month. All our pricing plans are outlined in detail at our pricing page.

The vast majority of subscribers remain below the maximum number of ad requests that their selected pricing level allows for. But in a small number of cases, subscribers have a higher number of ad requests then their pricing level allows for. We call this “overage use”.

Paying for Overage Use

After each calendar month, we run a process to charge this overage use to the subscriber’s card.

For example: a subscriber at the Lite pricing level ($10 a month for up to 1 million ad requests per month), may end up with 1.38 million ad requests in a given month.

We will then charge the costs for the overage use volume of 0.38 million ad requests.

Rate for Overage Use

The rate for overage use is $20 per unit of 1 million ad requests, for subscribers with a Lite, Plus, Premium, or Super pricing plan.

For the Ultimate and the Elite pricing plan, the rate for overage use is $10 per unit of 1 million ad requests.

Calculation of Overage Costs

The Overage Use Costs are calculated by multiplying the overage use rate and the overage use volume.

The overage use costs we calculate and charge will never be higher than the difference between the current and the appropriate pricing level.

Overage use costs will be rounded up to the nearest whole dollar.

Three examples

  • A subscriber at the Lite pricing level ($10 for up to 1 million ad requests) ends up with 1.38 million ad requests, that means there’s an overage use of 0.38 million ad requests.
The overage charge is calculated as 0.38 x $20 = $7.60, which is rounded up to $8.
  • Another Lite subscriber ends up with 1.76 million ad requests, meaning there is an overage use volume of 0.76 million ad requests.
The overage charge is calculated as 0.76 x $20 = $15.20, but it is topped off at $10.
Effectively this subscriber has paid $20 for the entire month, the same as someone who has the Plus pricing plan selected all along.
  • A Plus subscriber ($20 for up to 2 million ad requests) ends up with 4.2 million ad requests, so an overage of 2.2 million ad requests. The overage charge is calculated as 2.2 x $ 20 = $44, but it will be maximised at $30 for this scenario.
Effectively this subscriber has paid $50 for that month, the same as someone who has the Premium pricing plan selected all along.

Overage Use Costs charged to card

When a new subscription is created and paid for, the subscriber enters the details of a credit or debit card. This also becomes the default payment method. The subscriber can enter more payment methods later, but one of the cards is always the default payment method.

Once the overage use costs have been calculated, an order is created dated on the very last calendar day of the month they are for. Next our system will charge these costs to the default payment method. If the payment is successful, the system sends a confirmation email to the subscriber, including a description of what the charge is for, and an invoice in the form of a PDF attachment for the financial records of the subscriber.

If payment fails initially…

If payment for the overage use fails on the default payment method at first, the system will check if the subscriber has entered any supplemental payment methods and try those as well.

If the payment fails on all available payment methods, the system sends an email to the subscriber prompting them to complete the payment themselves, possibly by entering another card as their preferred payment method.

If the overage use payment is not completed within a reasonable time, we may end up temporarily suspending the ad server account in order to avoid any further unpaid costs accrueing.
